1st Call for Applications: 1st Training School of COST Action CA23157

6–11 September 2026 | Thessaloniki, Greece

COST Action CA23157 – MultiView LCSA is pleased to announce the Call for Applications for its 1st Training School, which will take place from 6 to 11 September 2026 in Thessaloniki, Greece. MultiView LCSA brings together researchers, industry representatives, practitioners, and policymakers to advance Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment and support the transition towards innovative and sustainable business models. As part of the Action’s commitment to capacity building and knowledge exchange, the Training School will provide participants with practical and theoretical knowledge of the environmental, social, and economic dimensions of sustainability assessment. The Training School is designed particularly for PhD candidates, early-career researchers, and professionals who wish to strengthen their knowledge and practical skills in Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment, life cycle thinking, and circular and sustainable business models.

Training Topics

Over five days, participants will engage with leading experts through lectures, practical exercises, case studies, group work, and interactive discussions. The programme will cover topics including:

   Environmental impact and risk assessment tools
   Environmental Life Cycle Assessment
   Social Life Cycle Assessment
   Life Cycle Costing and economic sustainability assessment
   Data mining techniques for environmental and social analysis
   Sustainable and circular business models
   Applications in emerging areas, including battery recycling and sustainable manufacturing

The programme will also include a technical visit and a final participant presentation session. Participants will have the opportunity to apply the concepts and methods introduced during the Training School to their own research projects, case studies, or professional activities.

Eligibility

Applications are welcome from:

   PhD candidates
   Early-career researchers
   Researchers and professionals working in sustainability assessment, life cycle thinking, circular economy, sustainable manufacturing, and related fields

Priority may be given to members of COST Action CA23157 and applicants from COST Inclusiveness Target Countries, in accordance with COST policies and the objectives of the Action. Please note that all applicants must be work group member of CA23157.

Financial Support

Financial support may be available for eligible participants in accordance with COST rules and the approved budget of the Training School. This support may contribute towards travel, accommodation, and subsistence expenses.

Applicants should note that the availability of financial support is limited and subject to the eligibility and selection criteria established by COST and the Training School Selection Committee.

Ο Κωνσταντίνος Ζοπουνίδης είναι διεθνώς αναγνωρισμένος Καθηγητής στο Πολυτεχνείο Κρήτης. Η διεθνής απήχηση του επιστημονικού του έργου αποτυπώνεται με ιδιαίτερα εντυπωσιακό τρόπο στους δείκτες: 27.949 επιστημονικές αναφορές, h-index 87 και i10-index 296 στο Google Scholar, στοιχεία που καταδεικνύουν το εύρος, τη συνέπεια και τη διεθνή επιρροή της ερευνητικής του διαδρομής.

Παράλληλα, η ακαδημαϊκή και επιστημονική του πορεία συνοδεύεται από σημαντικές διεθνείς διακρίσεις και θέσεις ευθύνης. Μεταξύ άλλων, έχει τιμηθεί από τη Γαλλική Δημοκρατία ως Ιππότης του Τάγματος των Ακαδημαϊκών Φοινίκων.

Η σχέση του Καθηγητή Ακαδημαϊκού Ζοπουνίδη με το CIHEAM, μέσω του ΜΑΙΧ, είναι βαθιά και διαχρονική, ξεκινώντας από το 1987. Έκτοτε, έχει συμβάλει καθοριστικά στη μεταπτυχιακή εκπαίδευση του Ινστιτούτου, επιβλέποντας μεταπτυχιακούς φοιτητές, συμμετέχοντας ως αξιολογητής σε μεταπτυχιακές εργασίες και καθοδηγώντας αποφοίτους του ΜΑΙΧ στην πορεία τους προς διδακτορικές σπουδές και σημαντικές ακαδημαϊκές και διοικητικές θέσεις στην Ευρώπη. 

Η απονομή του τίτλου έρχεται να επισφραγίσει μια μακρά και παραγωγική συνεργασία, η οποία έχει συμβάλει ουσιαστικά στην ενίσχυση της ερευνητικής δραστηριότητας, της ακαδημαϊκής ποιότητας και της διεθνούς παρουσίας του CIHEAM ΜΑΙΧ.

Η διάκριση αναδεικνύει τη σημασία της σύνδεσης της πανεπιστημιακής έρευνας με τις πραγματικές προκλήσεις του κλάδου των αερομεταφορών και την ανάπτυξη σύγχρονων, βιώσιμων υποδομών αερολιμένων. Παράλληλα, επιβεβαιώνει τον ενεργό ρόλο των νέων ερευνητών του Πολυτεχνείου Κρήτης στη διαμόρφωση λύσεων με ουσιαστικό αναπτυξιακό και κοινωνικό αντίκτυπο.
