Quality Policy

Quality Assurance Statement

The School of Production Engineering and Management, in collaboration with the Quality Assurance Unit of the Technical University of Crete, has established a quality assurance policy that complies with the University’s policy.

The mission of the School is to promote science and technology in the areas of production systems, operations research, and the management of complex techno-economic systems. The School’s curriculum and research are focused on providing its graduates with the skills and qualifications required to meet the existing challenges and future trends in the design and efficient operation of production and management systems.

To this end, the School adopts an interdisciplinary approach that combines science, engineering, and management, while closely following the state-of-the-art developments in research and technology, as well as the advances in educational practices, and the trends in the job market.

The strategic goals of the School are:

  • To provide high-level education through a student-centered learning that is dynamically adjusted to the developments in the School’s fields of interest.

  • To promote high-level research and the establishment of strong connections between education and research.

  • To strengthen the School’s faculty and staff team to cover the educational, research, and administrative needs of the School.

  • To strengthen the School’s openness and outreach through its connections with the local community, the job market and the alumni, as well as through the development of collaborations with national and international research organizations and institutions.

Towards achieving these goals, the School implements various actions and procedures, such as:

  1. The undergraduate program is continuously monitored and updated to follow the developments in the School’s fields of interest. The Undergraduate Program Committee is responsible for this task. The Committee comprises three faculty members and a representative of the students.

  2. Strengthening the ties between education and research through the diploma thesis, laboratory courses, as well as by facilitating the participation of students to the School’s research groups and research activities (i.e., conferences).

  3. The systematic monitoring and standardization of the learning goals and outcomes of the undergraduate program through an electronic platform specifically designed for this task.

  4. The annual evaluation of the undergraduate program (courses and teaching staff), which is implemented by the School’s Internal Evaluation Team, in collaboration with the University’s Quality Assurance Unit. The results and findings of these evaluations are presented in annual reports that are available on the website of the School.

  5. The use of electronic means to support the educational services and the operating procedures of the School (eClass learning platform, electronic students’ registry, platform for the courses’ learning goals and outcomes).

  6. The active support of students with regards to internships and their participation in the ERASMUS program. To this end, special committees have been formed.

  7. The organization of special seminars and meetings to promote the School and strength its connections with professional organizations and the alumni.

The quality assurance procedures of the School are periodically monitored by the Quality Assurance Unity of TUC in collaboration with the School’s Internal Evaluation Team.
