Postdoctoral Studies

The school encourages PhD holders to conduct research in the scientific subjects it treats. Postdoctoral research contributes to:

  • dissemination of research results and transfer of know-how,
  • development of new research avenues and expansion of existing ones,
  • aiding new researchers with high-level knowledge
  • strengthening of academic reputation of the school
  • recruitment of new faculty.

Applications are open all year. Individuals interested in postdoctoral research must have contacted a PEM faculty member who will serve as the research advisor and approves the research subject. The application includes

  • application form with the applicant's personal identification data, advisor name and lists of degrees earned, publications, distinctions, and foreign language certifications;
  • copies of degrees earned; titles awarded by a foreign university must have been included in the titles and institute registries compiled by the Hellenic National Academic Recognition and Information Center (https://www.doatap.gr/home_english/);
  • copies of the doctoral dissertation and publications;
  • research proposal including the research title and a two-page research description (introduction, research objectives, importance and novelty, literature review, methodology, time schedule, diffusion of results, bibliography);
  • recommendation letters from academic references.

The applications are approved by the School Assembly. The duration of postdoctoral research is between 12 months and 36 months. Postdoctoral researchers can: declare the postdoctoral title and their fellowship with the PEM School; use approved school resources such as office, library, computers and laboratory resources for their research; participate in funded projects and get scholarships. They are required to carry out certain teaching assignments and submit a full research report at the end of their fellowship. Successful completion of the program leads to a Certificate of Postdoctoral Research awarded by the PEM School.
