The goals of the doctoral program are to generate new knowledge and provide students with advanced training in order to achieve original contributions to the solution of challenging scientific problems and contribute to the advancement of science and technology. There are no tuition fees. The PhD requires a minimum of 30 ECTS of coursework, or at least four graduate level courses, submission of annual progress reports, participation in mandatory examination proctorships, completion of original research work leading to a doctoral dissertation, two publications in refereed journals and conferences (one journal publication minimum), and, finally, a successful thesis defense before the doctoral examination committee. All courses must be passed in the first two years. PhD candidates are supervised by a doctoral advisory committee consisting of the supervisor and two other faculty members. The program length is at least three years and at most six; the School Assembly may upon request approve a maximum of two years extension.
Applications for admission to the doctoral program are open all year. Applicants must hold an MSc, MEng or Integrated Master degree from a university of Greece or an equivalent title awarded by a foreign university and recognized by the Hellenic National Academic Recognition and Information Center (titles and institute registries can be searched in https://www.doatap.gr).
Individuals interested in pursuing doctoral studies must, before applying for admission, contact a PEM faculty member who approves the subject of the dissertation and agrees to serve as the thesis supervisor. Submissions are accepted through the graduate application platform (https://e-graduate.tuc.gr). The application must contain copies of the following documents: degrees earned and corresponding grades, at least level B2 (very good) English language certification or completion of a program of study taught in English, curriculum vitae, dissertation title and summary, research statement, two recommendation letters from academic references
