Title: The Symplegma project, a java computational mechanics framework.

Abstract: In recent years there is increasing interest in the study and implementation of numerical methods for problems of computational mechanics. Methods such the finite and boundary elements are dominant and assumed to be essential for scientific research and engineering applications. While excellent commercial packages of such techniques exist, it seems that there is a gap of efficient educational software. Java technology, object oriented paradigm and open source movement seems to be an appropriate triad for such development that is also adopted for the Symplegma project.
