The goals of the doctoral program are to generate new knowledge and provide students with advanced training in order to achieve original contributions to the solution of challenging scientific problems and contribute to the advancement of science and technology.
The PhD requires a minimum of 30 ECTS of coursework, or at least four graduate level courses, submission of annual progress reports, participation in mandatory examination proctorships, completion of original research work leading to a doctoral dissertation, two publications in refereed journals and conferences (one journal publication minimum), and, finally, a successful thesis defense before the doctoral examination committee. All courses must be passed in the first two years. PhD candidates are supervised by a doctoral advisory committee consisting of the supervisor and two other faculty members.
The program length is at least three years and at most six; the School Assembly may upon request approve a maximum of two years extension. There are no tuition fees.
