Associate professor at the Technical University of Crete, School of Production Engineering and Management; visiting professor at Imperial College London, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering; collaborating faculty member of the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (FORTH), Institute of Geoenergy; and founder & CEO of the spin-off company Viridiance Insights. His research activities focus on the Green and Digital Transition of key community systems, drawing on four core research pillars: Process Engineering, Circular Economy, Energy and Environmental Systems Management, and Digital Technologies. A central element of his research activity is the exploitation of emerging Information and Communication Technologies for the design and implementation of innovative solutions in critical productive sectors, including industry, agriculture, energy systems and water resources management systems. Emphasis is placed on the development of advanced Process and System Modelling and Optimization methodologies, as well as on the use of Artificial Intelligence for the creation of Digital Twins and Cyber-Physical Systems, supporting the transition toward intelligent, interconnected, and efficient production systems. His research activities have resulted in more than 170 publications in peer-reviewed international scientific journals and conference proceedings, 6 educational books and 5 chapters in edited books. Principal Investigator and Coordinator of many Research Projects, mainly funded by the European Commission. Founder and scientific coordinator of the Digital and Industrial Innovations Research Group, bringing together a multidisciplinary team of more than 20 researchers, including faculty members, postdoctoral fellows, PhD candidates, and undergraduate students, working collectively on cutting-edge research and innovation.
