Specialty: Applied Mathematics.

Brief CV: Professor Yiannis Saridakis was born in Athens in 1958. He acquired his Mathematics degree from University of Crete in 1981 and his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science from Clarkson University, New York in 1983 and 1985 respectively. From 1985 to 1991 he served as an Assistant Professor in Clarkson University and, from 1991 to 1997, as an Associate Professor in Technical University of Crete. Since 1997 he holds the position of a Professor in the Mathematics Division of the Department of Sciences of Technical University of Crete and he is the Director of the Applied Mathematics and Computers Laboratory. In 1997 he was elected Chairman of the Department of Sciences and held this position till 1999. He was elected twice as Vice-Rector of Academic Affairs and Personnel of Technical University of Crete and held this position from 1999 to 2005. He has published more than fifty scientific papers in international scientific journals and conference proceedings in the areas of Scientific Computing, Parallel Algorithms (VLSI, Distributed / Shared Memory and Grid Architectures), Numerical Linear Algebra, Optimization and Cellular Automata. He has participated in a number of scientific research and development projects (e.g. 2001-2005 he was the coordinator in a funded project aiming to the development of the Technical University of Crete Library's portal as well as the digitization of the University's grey literature) and he has developed several electronic prototypes (e.g. Electronic Dictionary of Terminology and Typology of Archaeological Vessels).

Education: Mathematics degree,  University of Crete, Greece (1981). M.Sc. (1983) and Ph.D. (1985) degrees in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science from Clarkson University, New York.

Research Interests: Recursive Methods for Linear Systems Solving, Numerical Methods for Solving Differential Equations, Parallel Processes, Parallel Algorithms, High Performance Scientific Computing, Stochastic Optimization Algorithms - Application in Adaptive Optics, Cellular Automata - Soliton Cellular Automata, Artificial Intelligence, Agent Technology, Agent Oriented Software Engineering, Agent Architectures, Ambient Intelligence, AI Application.
